A bee on the Pinot Noir grapes.

2006 Stoller JV Pinot Noir

Top 100 of 2008. Both bottlings from Bill Stoller's Dundee Hills parcel impressed us, but this classic Oregon bottling from younger vines gets extra points for value. The savory opening - copper, tangerine, tamari and cranberry - leads to a juicy, full profile notable for its clarity and a sappy sweet note that extends the finish. San Francisco Chronicle, December 2008

90. Light in color, with juicy raspberry, green tea and earth flavors that mingle enticingly on the silky, refined finish and persist delicately. Drink now through 2016. 3,035 cases made. Wine Spectator, December 2008.

92. Intense and ever-so-slightly roasted fruit that has excellent warm middle-eastern spice notes, and a grilled rare steak tone. Very interesting on the nose as it has some cool climate rainwater character but also offers up very ripe fruits with spicy, dried cherry tones. Sweetish yet with acid to support the fruit, very fine polished tannins sit comfortably under the drape of fruit. Very fresh yet completely ripe with complex shades of berry fruit, spice, soil, and herbs. Really complete stuff. Lots of very subtle coriander/sassafras tones that don't veer off into the cola/root beer end of the spectrum. Very impressive transparency and mouthfeel. Snooth.com, November 2008.

87. The 2006 Pinot Noir JV Estate (junior vines) offers up a nose of spice box and earth notes with a hint of red fruit aromas. This is followed by a smooth-textured wine with ample savory red fruits on the palate but which is a bit short on complexity. This pleasant effort can be enjoyed over the next five years. Stoller Vineyards' portfolio includes a trio of successful 2006 Pinot Noirs. Wine Advocate, October 2008.

Three Stars (Excellent). Loam, Bing cherry, cranberry, strawberry and tangerine aromas. Juicy, ripe profile bolstered by a hint of cocoa, spice and bright acidity. Pretty, balanced with soft tannins and a sappy sweet note on the finish. Classic Oregon Pinot Noir that gets extra points for value. San Francisco Chronicle, October 2008.

Wine of the Week. To plant his vineyard, Bill Stoller returned to an unusual site: the former turkey farm located where he grew up outside Dundee, Ore. Where gobblers once grew happened to be the volcanic Jory soils that lend Dundee Hills wines a mix of power and finesse. As you'll see in tomorrow's Wine Selections, both Pinots from the Stoller vineyard impressed our panel. But this young-vines bottling offers killer dollar-for-Pinot value. With a tang to it - tangerine and tamari - it offers a juicy, full profile, with Oregon's trademark buoyancy and clarity. SFGate.com , October 2008.

Excellent. This vineyard up the hill from the town of Dundee, OR, was planted beginning in 1995 and had some of the best folks in the business helping, including Allen Holstein and Harry Peterson-Nedry. Melissa Burr crafted the wine in Stoller's new facility amid the vines. It opens with inviting aromas of cherries, red peppercorns and blackberries, followed by richly structured flavors that reminded us of a freshly baked cherry pie. It is well balanced and lengthy in the finish. Wine Press Northwest, Spring 2008.

World's 30 Best Pinot Noirs. Sweet cherry fruit and a touch of graham-crackery oak make this straightforward Pinot—sourced from younger vines at Stoller’s estate vineyard in the Dundee Hills — a pleasure to drink. Food & Wine, May 2008. Ray Isle.

90. Year's Best Pinot Noir. Bright, youthful cherry scents lead this ripe, vibrant wine. Its succulent cherry flavors are generous, simple and delicious, with a fine dusty finish that makes this ideal with a lighter grilled fish, like tilapia. Wine & Spirits, April 2008.

2006 Stoller SV Pinot Noir

90. Soft, silky and open-textured, this shows its ripe currant and cherry fruit beautifully, shading it with hints of black olive and forest floor aromas.  The finish lingers enticingly.  Drink now through 2014.  1,578 cases made. Wine Spectator, December 2008.

89. The 2006 Pinot Noir SV Estate (senior vines) was fermented with native yeasts and bottled without fining or filtration. It is dark ruby-colored with aromas of spice box, cedar, black cherry, and black raspberry. Silky on the palate, the wine has a bit more density and focus than its young vine sibling. This medium-long effort may evolve for a year or two and can be enjoyed through 2016. Stoller Vineyards' portfolio includes a trio of successful 2006 Pinot Noirs. Wine Advocate, October 2008.

Three Stars (Excellent). Orange blossom, mineral-driven nose with soy, musk and forest floor amid radiant strawberry. Palate's subtle fruit is mildly sweet but seamless, with greater acidity. Cocoa-like tannins provide perfect grip. Balanced. San Fransisco Chronicle, October 2008.

2006 Stoller SV Chardonnay

Best New Wine Lists ’08. Sepia ~ Chicago ~ There are not many familiar names on the artisan winemaker–dominated list at Sepia, a 92-seat restaurant on the first floor of an old print shop in Chicago’s Fulton River District. A Champagne is likely to be from an unknown producer like Gardet, a Chardonnay from a small winery like Stoller in Oregon. Food & Wine, July 2008, Richard Nally.

Very Good. This yellow wine initially opens with a spicy pear like bouquet. Then some cedar and smoky oak arrives. On the palate, this medium bodied wine is round, slightly creamy, with honey and vanilla flavors with toasted oak influences. The finish is dry and brief. The panel felt this would pair nicely with brie. KensWineGuide.com, June 2008.

2007 Stoller JV Chardonnay

7 Good Causes, 15 Top Wines. This unoaked Chardonnay from Stoller is clean, crisp and fresh. Food & Wine, August 2008, Ray Isle.

2007 Stoller JV Pinot Noir Rosé

This Oregon rosé was made in a blend of two methods: Half the grapes were pressed immediately and fermented in cooled steel tanks; the other half were cold soaked for four days before pressing and fermentation. The result is an outstanding, fruity rose with ripe strawberry and sweet cherry notes. Quad City Times (Iowa), June 4, 2008, Tom Marquardt and Patrick Darr.
